The Trouble with Players Deleted Scene
DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE TROUBLE WITH PLAYERS YET!!! Contains HUGE spoiler!!!
This is the scene when Crew’s mother shows up in Cape Cod. Please note, I took it out since it was the only scene told in Crew’s POV, and my editor said that would be weird to have only one portion in his POV. In addition, I needed to add some suspense to why he left. Also, Peyton had a brother Rory until I was told by my editor to get rid of him. LOL! So, that is the Rory in this scene. I did leave him in as The Delaney's son at the sponsorship banquet, though.

I awoke to the sun shining through the skylights in the pool house. Peyton shifted beside me on the sofa and nestled into my side. I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to wake up. Who would’ve thought a few weeks ago we’d end up like this. With the days waning and the baseball season over if we cinched the Championship tonight, I wanted to spend every free moment with her—preferably like this, but I’d take laughing and being in her presence too.
“Crew!” Rory yelled outside. It was just a matter of minutes before he found us like this in the pool house.
I shimmied out from Peyton’s body and tiptoed out of the pool house, closing the door quietly behind me. “Hey, buddy,” I called meeting him by the back door.
“You have a visitor,” he said with a big toothy grin.
“Oh yeah? Who is it?”
He shrugged.
I walked inside the house, stopping short when I found my mother standing by the kitchen island.
Her face lit up when she saw me.
She rushed to me and threw her arms around me.
“What are you doing here?”
She pulled back and looked me in the eyes. “Because I wanted to see you play in the Championship game.”
“You didn’t have to make the trip. You stream the games.”
“It’s killing me to be away from you and not be able to cheer you on from the stands. I’m your biggest fan.”
“I know, it’s just—”
“What the hell are you doing here?”
My mother and I twisted around to find Mr. Richmond standing there with rage in his eyes.
“Did you let her in?” he asked me, his eyes demanding and wild.
“Rory did,” I explained, unsure what had gotten in to him.
“Get out!” he demanded.
“You must be confused,” I said. “This is my mother.”
His head flinched back. “What?”
She cocked her head. “Nice to see you too, Marty.”
“What are you trying to pull, you whore?” he asked.
“Woah. Mr. Richmond. That’s my mother you’re talking to. I’m gonna have to ask you to stop or I’ll have to make you.”
“I’m not trying to pull anything,” my mother interrupted. “I just wanted to see our son.”
“Our son?” Mr. Richmond and I asked in unison.
My mother’s face didn’t falter.
“What the fuck?!” he said.
“Mom?!” I demanded.
“What?” she said. “Surprise!”
“You’re lying,” he growled. “I paid you what you asked for?”
Incoherent thoughts rushed through my brain. I found it difficult to speak. “You said my father left us,” I finally managed.
“Crew, let me explain,” she began.
Vomit crept up the back of my throat and my head swam. I needed air. I spun away from them and stormed out the front door.
Peyton rounded the side of the house. “Crew!” she called.
I couldn’t look at her.
I couldn’t speak to her.
I couldn’t stomach what’d I done with my…my…
I couldn’t even think it.
My stomach roiled as I hurried away from the house. Away from my mother who’d kept a vicious secret. Away from the man who religiously cheated on his wife and impregnated groupies. Away from the girl I’d fallen in love with.
Peyton
What the hell was wrong with him? I’d awoken alone in the pool house and now he was storming off and ignoring me.
I walked through the back door into the kitchen, noting a woman pacing the kitchen while my father glared at her from a stool.
“Who are you?” I asked, not liking that a woman was there and my mother wasn’t.
The woman turned toward me. She looked younger than my mom but had beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. “Oh, hello,” she said.
“Is everything okay?” I asked, my eyes holding the real question.
“Fine,” my father clipped.
“I’m Crew’s mother,” the woman explained, ignoring my father’s rudeness.
Relief washed over me and a smile spread across my face. I examined her face, and the resemblance was definitely there. “Nice to meet you. I’m Peyton.”
“I know,” she said.
“You know?”
“Well, he told me they had a daughter, so I assumed…Did you happen to see Crew this morning?”
My eyes widened, looking guilty even though I tried like hell not to. “Nope.”
She released a breath and, if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought she was relieved.
“I can go find him,” I offered.
“That would be great.”
I spun around and headed outside, searching the pool house where we’d slept. He wasn’t there. I headed down the path to the beach, but only seagulls occupied the sand. I headed back toward the house, slipping in the front door and hurrying upstairs. I checked my room, but he wasn’t there. I moved to the guest room, but he wasn’t there either. I pulled my phone from my pocket and sent off a text. Where r u?
